10 Mainstream Actors Who’ve Done Adult Films
We don’t just love the 10 stars on this list. We’ve lusted after them. Here are the 10 biggest mainstream actors with an adult film past.
Stormy Daniels: There’s no adult actor who has conquered mainstream culture quite like Stormy Daniels. Born Stephanie Clifford, Stormy Daniels has carved out a mega-career in the adult film industry as a star, director, and businesswoman. She also has appeared in a slew of mainstream comedies in bit roles. However, it was her real life affair with Donald Trump that pushed her into the pages of American history, and landed her a cameo as herself on Saturday Night Live. Though Daniels joked that she wasn’t known for her acting, she managed to nail the comedy of the sketch pretty darn well.
Spalding Gray: Long before he captivated the world with his long autobiographic monologues, like Swimming to Cambodia, Spalding Gray was just your average struggling actor. In 1976, he appeared in the controversial adult film Farmer’s Daughters. The film features a number of gang rape fantasies and forced incest. Gray plays George, the leader of a gang of convicts that arrive on the farm to have their way with the titular daughters.

Sibel Kekilli: German actress Sibel Kekilli is best known to American audiences as Shae, Tyrion’s doomed lover on Game of Thrones. Shae entered the storyline as a sex worker who had entranced the witty lion of Lannister, but as it turns out, Kekilli had a brush with the adult business in the past. The actress appeared in some soft core German adult films before launching her official acting career…which landed her on HBO’s flagship show.
Sylvester Stallone: Today he’s a Hollywood legend, but for years before striking it big with Rocky, Sylvester Stallone was a down-on-his-luck wannabe actor. At one point, things were so dire that he was forced to make ends meet by appearing in a soft-core adult film called The Party at Kitty and Stud’s. Stallone also appeared in an erotic play in New York City, which was later filmed and rebranded to capitalize off of his success.
Shu Qi: Today Chinese actress Shu Qi is an international superstar who appeared opposite Jason Statham in The Transporter and who boasts one of the highest salaries in the Hong Kong industry. However, back in the ’90s, she was best-known for “erotic comedies.” These are soft-core Chinese films full of sex, nudity, and silliness. What changed all that was appearing Viva Erotica!, a critically-acclaimed film about the innerworkings of that industry — kind of like the Hong Kong Boogie Nights. After that, she made the transition to mainstream Chinese films, and international fare after that.
Simon Rex: Simon Rex has been a high-end model, MTV VJ, film and TV star, and, yes, an adult film performer. When Rex was starting out on his modeling career in the early ’90s, he not only consented to posing nude, but he also appeared in several “self-masturbation” videos. Rex continues to work in supporting roles in TV and film.
Traci Lords: Arguably the first major adult film star to find acceptance in mainstream entertainment, Traci Lords went from appearing in illegal adult films as an underage performer to co-starring opposite Johnny Depp in the cult classic John Waters film Cry Baby. Lords left the industry at the age of 18 and has continued to work as an actress and writer for the last few decades. Still, her reign as the “Princess of Porn” left an indelible, historic mark on the industry.
Ron Jeremy: Arguably the most famous male adult film star ever, Ron Jeremy has managed to transcend his own legacy. Today he’s not just known for his long list of erotic films, but as a pop culture fixture, popping up in random comedies and reality shows. That said, he still is kind of known for being an adult film star.
James Deen: Perhaps the most controversial star on this list isn’t the empire shaking Stormy Daniels, but the faux feminist porn star James Deen. A few years back, Deen became a darling for his progressive takes on sexuality and witty online presence. He even broke through in a big way, getting cast opposite Lindsay Lohan in the b-movie misfire The Canyons. But Deen’s star fell when several high-profile adult actresses, including his ex Stoya, came forward with allegations of assault and abuse. Since then, Deen has been just about blacklisted from the industry that made him.
