Cyclone Fengal impact: Heavy rain alert for South Coastal AP, Rayalaseema

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in some places in South Coastal AP and Rayalaseema from November 29-December 1, India Meteorological Department Amaravati said.

Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning with squally winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting 50 kmph is likely in these areas, the weather department further said. In North Coastal AP and Yanam, light to moderate rain is likely in few places.

Weather inference by IMD:

The deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph during the past 6 hours about 270 km northeast of Trincomalee, 300 km of Nagapattinam, 340 km of Puducherry and 380 km southeast of Chennai.

It is likely to continue to move northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph during the afternoon of November 30.

Telangana rain:

Light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorms at some places is likely in Telangana from November 29 to December 5. Cumulatively it is likely to be above normal rainfall over Telangana in the above mentioned time period. Similar conditions may also prevail in December second week, IMD said.

In Hyderabad, maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 and 17 degrees Celsius respectively. Surface winds are likely to be north-easterlies with windspeed of around 6-8 kmph.
