Gautam Gambhir shuts down chatter about equation with Virat Kohli: ‘Good for TRP’
IND vs SL, Gauram Gambhir press conference: Gautam Gambhir opened up on the talks regarding his relationship with Virat Kohli during the press conference prior to the tour of Sri Lanka. Gambhir also called Kohli a world-class player and looked forward to working with him.
Gautam Gambhir opened up on the talks surrounding his relationship with Virat Kohli, saying that they are “good for TRPs”. Kohli and Gambhir have often been involved in heated exchanges, mostly in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Being animated characters, the duo have lost their cool on the field quite a few times. However, last season, Kohli and Gambhir hugged and shook hands with each other during a match between RCB and KKR.
Gambhir said that he shares a healthy relationship with Kohli, one of India’s greatest cricketers. The veteran hailed Kohli as a “thorough professional” and a “world-class batter. Gambhir, India’s hero in the T20 World Cup 2007 and ODI World Cup 2011 wins, said that he is looking forward to working with Kohli for the betterment of Indian cricket.
Our job is to make India proud: Gautam Gambhir
“Good for TRP. My relationship is not public. It’s a relationship between two mature individuals. On the field, I am sure we have got to be on the same page. I share a very good relationship with him,” Gambhir said in a press-conference prior to the tour of Sri Lanka where chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar was also present.
“I have had a lot of chats with him, but sometimes. We shared messages. It’s not important what we discussed after my announcement or before my announcement. Just because we want headlines. He is a thorough professional, he is a world-class player. Hopefully, we can work together really well. Our job is to make the country proud together. We are representing more than a billion people. We have got to be on the same page,” Gambhir added.
Gambhir and Kohli have been involved in several match-winning partnerships for India over the years. Back in 2009, Gambhir also gave away his Player of the Match award to Virat Kohli, who had scored his maiden ODI hundred against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka is set to get underway on June 27 with the three-match T20I series followed by the ODI series.
