Apart from this, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nitin Gadkari, Sunil Tatkare, Jayant Vasumatari, Laghukrishna Devrai, Phanibhushan Choudhary, Shrikishan Pal also proposed Om Birla’s name. Meanwhile, Arvind Ganapati Sawant, Supriya Sule, Kanimozhi proposed the name of Kerala Congress MP K Suresh for the post of Speaker.
Proposal passed by voice vote, no demand for voting
After both the proposals were presented, the proposal was passed by voice vote. Earlier it was believed that the opposition would demand voting on it, but the opposition did not make any such demand. After this, the proposal was considered passed. Om Birla was taken to the chair by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition as well as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. When Om Birla reached the chair, Protem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab said that it is your chair, you take charge.
