Rider Who Confronted S’porean Men Filling Barrel With Petrol Gets Account Restored By Grab

A viral video of two Singaporean men screaming and attacking a food delivery rider after he called them out for allegedly filling up a barrel at a petrol station in Johor Bahru surfaced on Tuesday, 20 June

Following the incident, the rider uploaded a second video on TikTok, revealing that his account was suspended due to the altercation in Iskandar Puteri, according to Kosmo!

“After the video went viral on social media, Grab suspended my account at 6pm today (Wednesday, 21 June). I immediately contacted Grab’s customer service and was told that Grab’s higher-ups would contact me in 24 hours,” he said.

“20 minutes later, I was contacted by Grab and was told that someone had filed a police report claiming that I took out a screwdriver to fight them. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage (of the incident) exists, so they can check it,” he added.

He went on to say that because of the suspension, he was unable to take delivery jobs, and he did not know how long it would take until his account would go back to normal.

However, at the time of writing, the TikTok video has been taken down.

Grab has since issued a statement to clarify the suspension of the rider’s account

In its statement, a Grab spokesperson confirmed that they received a report from the public regarding the incident, which also involved public safety.

“As many know, we do have a code of conduct in place to protect our community of users and partners, which is centred on service quality and safety. Therefore, we take any report that impacts these things (quality of service and safety of partners and the public) very seriously.

“As such, as a precautionary measure and according to our processes in managing safety incidents, we temporarily suspended his account while we investigated the matter. Upon completion of the investigation (which includes conversations with the said partner), we have since reinstated him,” read the statement published yesterday, 22 June.

They went on to apologise to the rider if he “felt unjustly treated”.

“As a platform that provides Malaysians with equal access to job opportunities and affordable access to their daily needs safely, we do not take this role we play lightly and often are hypervigilant, especially with regards to safety issues.”
