San Jose Earthquakes part ways with manager Matias Almeyda
Matias Almeyda is out as manager of the San Jose Earthquakes, sources have confirmed to ESPN.
The decision was made to part ways with the Argentine hours after the Quakes tied Nashville SC
Almeyda concludes his three-plus seasons in San Jose with a regular season record of 31-42-25.
He was signed to great fanfare and high hopes just prior to the end of the 2018 regular season.
Almeyda's man-marking system was expected to turn around the fortunes of a team that had qualified for the playoffs just twice in the previous eight seasons.
While the team played some exciting soccer at times during Almeyda's tenure, the team lacked consistency
Almeyda has on multiple occasions criticized San Jose's lack of spending in comparison to much of the rest of the league.
